<text>The children that integrated Clinton High School came to be known as the "Clinton Twelve" and were the first to integrate schools in Tennessee in 1956. Students and their supports faced widespread protests and physical violence, including the Rev. Paul Turner, the white minister of the First Baptist Church, who was severely beaten after escorting the twelve students to school. The school was largely destroyed in 1958 when three dynamite explosions caused massive structural damage. Although, no one was injured in the blasts, the building was inoperable and students were forced to relocate to a vacant elementary school until the high school was rebuilt in 1960.</text>
