Dr. Robert J. MacBeth, ca. 1890s, courtesy of Avery Research Center. MacBeth, an Avery graduate who became a dentist in Charleston, served as one of the early presidents of the Avery Alumni Association. The goal of this Association was to assist with fundraising and secure its social standing in the Charleston community to help ensure the school's continued existence.
