Mary Battle
Mary Battle is the head curator, author, and researcher for African Passages, Lowcountry Adaptations. She is the Public Historian at the Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture and the Co-Director of the Lowcountry Digital History Initiative. Battle received her PhD from Emory University’s Institute for Liberal Arts. Her dissertation examines changing representations of slavery in Charleston's public history landscape.
John White
Dr. John White is the project director, lead historian, and editor of African Passages, Lowcountry Adaptations. He received his PhD in U.S. History from Florida State University. White is the Dean of Libraries at the College of Charleston, and former director of the College of Charleston’s Program in the Carolina Lowcountry and Atlantic World (CLAW) and the former project director of the Lowcountry Digital Library (LCDL) at College of Charleston’s Addlestone Library.
Heather Gilbert
Heather Gilbert is the web developer for African Passages, Lowcountry Adaptations. She received her MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 2002 and her MLIS from the University of South Carolina in 2011. Gilbert is the director of the Lowcountry Digital Library and the Head of Digital Scholarship at the College of Charleston.
Tyler Mobley
Tyler Mobley is the digital technology consultant for African Passages, Lowcountry Adaptations. He graduated with his MLIS from the University of South Carolina, where he focused on digital libraries and systems. Mobley is a digital services librarian for the Addlestone Library at the College of Charleston.
Angela Flenner
Angela Flenner is the fiscal agent and budget supervisor for African Passages, Lowcountry Adaptations. She has an MLIS and an MS degree in historic preservation, and is trained in the care and handling of historic documents. Flenner is a digital services librarian for the Addlestone Library at the College of Charleston.
